Project summary
Development and testing the efficacy of new treatment strategies against key diseases that impact animal health in livestock and aquaculture production such as pig enteritis, pig respiratory and systemic infections, cattle lameness and endometritis, ruminant and pig parasitic enteric disease, and fish bacterial and viral diseases. The project will also focus on new strategies for improving clinical efficacy of the existing antibiotics
Project objectives
- Some animal pathogens that cause diseases of high impact in livestock production and aquaculture
- To develop tools to assess the efficacy of those new alternatives on target animals in experimental farms
- To develop in vivo, in vitro and in silico infection models as tools to assess the efficacy of those new alternatives in order to reduce the need for animal testing
- To improve the clinical efficacy of existing antimicrobials
Outcomes and impacts
- Seek to identify new “drugs” for therapy in livestock and aquaculture
- Provide new strategies to contrast AMR development
