Internal project
ADEPT - Advanced tools for DIVA, Environmental surveillance, and Pathogen Tracking across species THE PROJECT'S WORK IS SUBJECTED TO REA'S APPROVAL OF THE AMENDMENT TO THE EUPAHW GRANT AGREEMENT 101136346
Action 3 - Leading Institute: ANSES
Project summary
The project aims to develop DIVA tools and innovative approaches for pathogen detection, environmental viability assessment and interspecies circulation. Prototype pathogens are included to cover the diverse characteristics and specificities. The project focuses more specifically on some high priority pathogens (Foot and Mouth disease virus, Culicoides-borne viruses, Brucella and Influenza virus).
Project objectives
- Task 1: developing and harmonizing advanced methods to detect multiple pathogens at the wildlife-livestock interface, integrating viability-based approaches to differentiate infectious from non-infectious signals and assess environmental persistence.
- Task 2: developing novel diagnostic tools for early detection, support DIVA, and investigation of cross-species transmission and associated host-specific adaptations for Culicoides-borne diseases (Bluetongue virus (BTV), Epizootic Haemorrhagic Disease virus (EHDV), bovine ephemeral fever virus (BEFV)).
- Task 3: developing a new Brucella diagnostic assay for animals
- Task 4: developing DIVA tools, studying pathogen survival in the environment and interspecies circulation of Foot and Mouth disease virus.
- Task 5: Improving the understanding of the interspecies circulation of high pathogenic avian Influenza viruses in various animal hosts to assess potential for onwards transmission to mammals including humans.
Outcomes and impacts
- SOP for pathogen environmental collection and detection
- Novel immuno-epidemiological DIVA platform
- Optimized DIVA tools
- Improved serological assays
- Reports on pathogen survival in the environment and interspecies circulation
