Action 5 - Leading Institute: ANSES
Project summary
Surveillance of animal health and welfare in livestock and aquaculture remains fragmented. SOA24 addresses this gap through a case-study based approach across five species groups (poultry, pigs, cattle, horses, aquaculture), developing: (a) surveillance protocols that jointly capture AH&W indicators; (b) early warning protocols to detect the emergence or re-emergence of priority diseases and welfare concerns.
Project objectives
- Identify and evaluate animal health and welfare indicators across selected livestock and aquaculture species
- Develop surveillance protocols integrating both health and welfare dimensions within a shared framework
- Build early warning protocols for selected (re)emerging animal diseases
- Test the developed protocols through proof-of-concept case studies in real-world settings
- Support capacity building by providing training for researchers and practitioners
- Disseminate results and protocols to relevant stakeholders at national and European levels
Outcomes and impacts
Outcomes
- Validated sets of animal health and welfare indicators across selected species
- Surveillance protocols integrating health and welfare monitoring
- Early warning protocols for selected (re)emerging diseases
- Reports and communication materials to share results with the scientific community and relevant stakeholders
Impacts
- More integrated animal health and welfare surveillance approaches across Europe
Priority Area 1
