Project summary
To create a knowledge platform in the EU with the objective to design, collect, collate, analyse, share and use integrated scientific and technical data on animal welfare, allowing future monitoring and surveillance of animal welfare at EU level on farms, during transport and at the slaughterhouse. The project will cover 14 animal categories from three production types (milk, eggs and meat) that are relevant for EU food production.
Project objectives
- To create a network of relevant stakeholders.
- To identify, collect, collate and analyse animal welfare measures, methods, protocols, tools and data.
- To develop a knowledge platform to identify, collect, collate, analyse and to share feedback on the results of animal welfare assessments in a systematic way on farm, during transport and at slaughter.
- To identify and formulate needs for the standardization of indicators and monitoring processes that should be developed in the future activities of the Partnership.
- To design a flexible data model of Animal Welfare assessment in the EU for centralised and harmonised monitoring and surveillance systems for animal welfare in the EU.
- To disseminate the results.
Outcomes and impacts
- Assessment on the benefits of the network and strategies for recruiting relevant stakeholders in the Platform, including a list of stakeholders.
- Evaluation of existing and implemented welfare assessments, including detailed categorization and description of measures and on the standards for data collection, analysis and interpretation.
- Development of requirements for the knowledge platform
- Implementation of data and information management protocols for the platform
- Recommendations for data sharing and dissemination
